Edit April 1st 2012: Test Build 2 Released

Mists of Pandaria, the upcoming expansion, has just gone into beta, and the WMV team is working hard on developing the next generation of WoW Model Viewer, version 0.8.0.0, which will be the first to fully support MoP! But, this means that there will be virtually no Mists of Pandaria support in the current 0.7.x.x series of WMV.

However, we understand that many don't want to wait, and want to see and access the files NOW! That is why we've created a Test build of WMV. This test build is unsupported, only available in 32-bit, and does NOT come with an installer.

Rather than trying to fix/add support to v0.7.x.x, we're focusing our energies on v0.8.0.0, which we're aiming at having ready around the time Mists of Pandaria is released. If others want to create patches for the 0.7.x.x line, we are more than willing to add them, but official support for MoP will be with 0.8.0.0.

To load MoP with the test build, follow this simple list of instructions:
  • Download and install the Beta. (Links and instructions below.)
  • Download and unRAR the Test Build of WMV.
  • Let the beta finish downloading and installing itself. (IMPORTANT! You won't be able to see any of the files if this step is skipped!)
  • Press the Play button on the Beta, then close it.
  • Load the Test Build, but do NOT load WoW.
  • Go to Options->Settings and clear the MPQ list.
  • Hit the reset button, and choose the Beta directory.
  • Close the window, go to File->Load World of Warcraft
  • Enjoy!
If you are have problems and you think that there are MPQs missing, here is a list of all the initial MoP MPQ files, in as close to the proper order as I can imagine them being in:

You can install any language version (or all of them) from any of these files. On Windows, once you've downloaded the installer, you will need to rename it "World of Warcraft Beta Setup.exe". The run it, and off you go!

Once you've done all this, you should be able to load up the models as seen here:

I myself didn't get this to work, even with following the instructions. I keep receiving an error after I try to load World of Warcraft within WMV:

"Some DBC files could not be loaded. These files are vital to being able to render models correctly. Please make sure you are loading the 'Locale-xxxx.MPQ' file. File list has been disabled until you are able to correct this problem."

Could I receive a list or a screenshot of the .MPQ files which will appear within the .MPQ list after the reset, loading the Beta folder and then adding the missing files? I have the feeling I am either skipping on something or the Beta's Locale file isn't working correctly. I have the EU Beta fully installed.

Thank you for the screenshot, I really appreciate it. Unfortuntely it didn't help; the same error occured.

I unpacked the rar file to start with a clean program, followed the instructions once more, added the missing Beta .MPQ files and then placed everything in the order shown in the screenshot; all files were accounted for, none were missing.

After reading the log, I found this error in the last paragraph of the log:

18:35:21: Trying to open enGB\items.csv file (for updating locale files)

I hope this will shed some light on the issue.

Eh... Not quite sure how much good a naked panda can be... But I'm sure I can make something out of it if I turn on my Olibith-mode :P

I hope this will shed some light on the issue.

Hmm... Didn't get that error with the enUS version... Try copying the enUS folder, paste it, then rename it enGB.

I'll start downloading the enGB version and see if I can reproduce this issue.

It was an issue on my end. Apparently my 'locale-enGB.MPQ' file was corrupted/damaged, no matter that the Beta launcher works perfectly fine. I received a copy from my boyfriend which I used to replace my own locale file, restarted the Test WMV program and it went smooth without any problems; I can view the female Pandaren as I should.

Thank you VERY much for trying to help and also for this version of WMV; it keeps one content till a Beta invite or the MoP release. Lots of love to you.

I don't know if I just missed it, but - my Model viewer doesn't seem to want to cooperate much. All of my pandaren are (mostly) bald with little to no customization options, except 1 hair style per gender, and the full facial hair for males, as well as the fur colors and animations. Beyond that, I can't do much with them as.. well.. this is what all male pandaren look like for me. No exceptions. They all have underwear on their faces.

The texture layout changed for the pandarens. WMV is fixed into a 512x512 image, while the pandarens use a 1024x512 image. WMV also hard-codes the location of the face textures, and the pandaren's face is located somewhere else.

This is what causes the underwear on the face for the men, and the face on the knees for the women. Not sure what's up with the single hairdos.

But this is why it's an unsupported build.

Ah. Thanks for clearing that up.. and, I don't really know about the hairdos. I only have one per gender - the chopsticks one for females, and the mini Mr.T do for males.

Just wondering, is it an issue with the WMV coding that the tails on the female panderians show up only as an empty hole at where the base of the tail would be?

Yes, it's a coding issue, but it deals with the geosets. Somewhere in the geosets is her tail. Just go through and try clicking them on until her tail appears.

Which WMOs are crashing? Is this Pandaria WMOs or Cataclysm WMOs? Can you give me a log?

Both crash, unfortunately nothing is posted in the log

I click on the filter to only show me the *.wmo files, then enter for example farm in the search, I select a wmo, ex. outlandpigfarm.wmo
and it crashes :/

Hey, the new build is cool... but the male pandaren's ears aren't showing up.

Is there a way to fix this, or must I wait for another patch or something?
